We are an Anti-racist school
This means that we actively teach our children to notice and stand up against unfair treatment, bias, and prejudice based on skin colour, culture, or background, rather than just passively noticing racism.
This includes, teaching our children the importance of valuing differences, understanding fairness and taking action. We do this through open conversations, at an age-appropriate level. Our curriculum had been developed to allow opportunities for these discussions – topics include, the Windrush Generation, for example. We were even lucky enough to be visited by our friend Cass, who came to England age 16, as part of the Windrush Generation. He talked to us about what it was like for him growing up in England and how he was treated by others; the challenges and opportunities he has faced during his life.
We work closely with Clare of Diversity Days, who comes into school to deliver anti-racism assemblies and staff meetings, as well as holding special assemblies for Black History Month and National Windrush Day. We are also a ‘No Outsiders’ school, which means that, as as school, we accept that we are ‘All Different, All Welcome’.
